The Legacy Continues

The Wayland Bar & Grill in Thunder Bay has a long history as a Westfort staple, opening in 1937 after being relocated from its original location along the Kaministiquia River. Originally known as the Wayland Hotel, The Wayland Bar & Grill stands as a vibrant testament to the rich local culture of Thunder Bay, blending a unique dive bar atmosphere with a commitment to quality food and live music. The bar has seen a lot of history and has a dedicated following. Nestled in the heart of Westfort, this establishment has transformed into a beloved community hub, offering patrons an inviting space to unwind and socialize. The attentive staff and owners, known for their friendly demeanor, consistently go above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience. With its rich history, engaging events, and a focus on community, Wayland Bar & Grill is more than just a bar; it is a cherished local landmark that continues to thrive.
In 2025, the Wayland was sold to new owners, the Baratta brothers, who also own Norteños Taqueria restaurants. The Barattas plan to maintain the existing staff and atmosphere, while making some improvements to the kitchen.
